By chance I came across a blog entry called One Long Week which contained the following:
“Rugby is such a strange sport. I went in not knowing what it was like except that it was kind of like American football, but not. I don’t even think I understood the point of the game when it was over. I did learn along the way, but I still have NO idea what was going on. It was sure an experience. The most entertaining part was the song for the home team. They were called the Saracens and their mascot was a camel. There was also what I think was a dog with a black eye. I guess that pertains to the roughness of rugby. Anyway, the song went “Stand up, Stand up for the Saracens, for the Saracens…” When this song played, all the fans stood up and waved a Saracens flag. There was an older man sitting two rows in front of us that got VERY into this song. If it played he was up out of his seat and put his whole self into waving his flag. If the song started and he couldn’t find his flag, he just waved his arms. He was very amusing. Unfortunately it got very cold after halftime. I stayed for the whole game though. It was fun for the most part. I didn’t do much Saturday night either.”
