Player sponsorship #2

Following on from the confirmation of our Men’s player sponsorship for 2019/20, the SSA are delighted to confirm our Women’s players for the coming season. Club Captain Lotte Clapp and Hannah Botterman, two key members of Saracens recent success, will be joining forces with the premiership's finest supporters association.

Lotte started playing rugby aged 11 at Sir Frederic Osborn School in Welwyn Garden City. Her biggest challenge was to gain the confidence to give rugby a try. She told us: “I always wanted to play and watched my brother Geoff turning out for Datchworth four years before I actually started."

Former Saracens & England Legend Maggie Alphonsi was her rugby idol around the time she first picked up the oval ball and Bob Dawson, a Welwyn coach, made rugby a lot of fun when Lotte was playing at U15 and U18 level. Saracens Women coach Alex Austerberry, then a divisional talent development officer, was also a major help, along with her parents Mick and Debbie. She was with Welwyn Rugby before joining Saracens and making her debut against Lichfield in October 2014.

Her path to Test caps featured two appearances in 2015 for England U20 against France and two matches for the England Women National Academy against Canada Women Maple Leafs. She made her World Women’s Sevens Series debut in Las Vegas in March 2017.

Hannah began playing rugby at age four for Datchworth and after eight years moved to play for Welwyn Girls. She has represented Hertfordshire, London & South East, England under 18s and, most recently, the senior England squad.

She comes from strong sporting stock - her uncle, Gregg Botterman, represented England and made more than 100 appearances for Saracens and her aunt, Jane Everett, was also an England prop.

Hannah's strong performances in the 2017/18 season, which culminated in her scoring the winning try in the Tyrrells Premier 15s final against Harlequins, earned her England selection for the first time, and she was also part of the autumn internationals in November 2018, the Women's 6N and the Red Roses recent tour to the USA.

Keep a close eye on the newsletter for more exclusive content from them both on all things Women’s rugby as the season goes on.

Welcome to the SSA Lotte and Hannah.
